Lectotype designated by de Laubenfels & Adema (1998: 360): du Petit-Thouars, Hist. Vég. (1804), t. I (Germination du Cycas), confirmed by Naorem & Khuraijam (2026: 257). The former WLoC citation to t. II, figs. a-e, is corrected to match the 1998 designation. Heterotypic with C. thouarsii, typified on t. II.

This name is considered a synonym of Cycas thouarsii R.Br.
