Etymology: Honoring Anselme Riedlé (1775–1801), former head gardener at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and friend of the great French explorer Nicolas Baudin, who he accompanied on a scientific expedition (1800–1804) to chart the coast of New Holland (Australia) and collected the type of this species.
