Lectotype designated by Naorem & Khuraijam (2026: 258): Schuster, Pflanzenr. IV.1 (Heft 99): 82, fig. 12 Q–R (1932), showing apical and transverse views of a three-sutured seed. Original description and figure citation confirmed on Schuster p. 74. The cited Hildebrandt 1862 specimen from Johanna (Anjouan), B, was reported destroyed; 1862 is the collection number, not a year. The Madagascar sheet B 18 0011585 is not this gathering.

This name is considered a synonym of Cycas thouarsii R.Br.
