Neotype: Boivin 2891, P (P00196837), Mayotte, October 1848; selected as Type by de Laubenfels & Adema (1998: 360), corrected to neotype and precisely identified by Naorem & Khuraijam (2026: 257–258). It is not original material from Bruant’s 1887 Humblot introduction. MNHN confirms P00196837 is Boivin 2891 from Mayotte, October 1848; P00196836 is a separate unnumbered Anjouan collection from May 1850.

This name is considered a synonym of Cycas thouarsii R.Br.
