Cycad Names | Cycas baiseensis Y.Y.Huang, Y.C.Zhong & Z.F.Lu

Cycas baiseensis Y.Y.Huang, Y.C.Zhong & Z.F.Lu

First published in: in Yang, Y., Wang, Z.H. & Xu, X.-T., Taxon. & Distrib. Global Gymnosp.: 65. (2017).

Etymology: Referring to its region of endemism near Baise City, Panshui Township, China. [source]

Nomenclature notes: The authors proposed this name as a replacement name for the validly published but illegitimate (superfluous) name Cycas gracilis Y.Y.Huang, Y.C.Zhong & Z.F.Lu (in J. Pl. Genet. Resources 9(4): 525-527). However, before that, Yang et al. (2017) had published the new name Cycas panshuiensis Y.Yang, explicitly replacing C. gracilis, making C. panshuiensis the legitimate replacement name (a nomen novum), and C. baiseensis an illegitimate name.
