Autonym of An autonym is a name created automatically when a genus or species is divided into named groups. An infraspecific autonym inherits the nomenclatural type of the species name. Cycad example: publishing Bowenia spectabilis var. serrulata automatically created Bowenia spectabilis var. spectabilis, which has the same type as Bowenia spectabilis (ICN Arts. 22 and 26).
