Nomenclatural Type Information
Collector and Number: J. Chemnick & T. Gregory 5
Locality: Mexico: Oaxaca, Vicinity of Metates, south of Valle Nacional , May 1995
Type Location(s): LT:FTG; ILT:SBBG
Type notes: Lectotype and isolectotype designated by Haynes (in Phytotaxa 612(2): 161. 2023) with the following notes: "In an inquiry to the herbarium curator at HNT—which was reported in the protologue to house the Chemnick & Gregory 5 holotype (Chemnick & Gregory 1995)—it was determined that the type is likely lost (S. Laymeyer[sic], pers. comm.). Because a lectotype was not assigned in the monograph (or elsewhere), it will be designated here. The first option for a lectotype (sensu Turland et al. (2018), Arts. 9.8, 9.11–9.13) is the J. Chemnick & T. Gregory 5 duplicate at XALU because (1) it was formally designated an isotype in the protologue (Chemnick & Gregory 1995), and (2) the herbarium is in Mexico. However, XALU reportedly has no record of this specimen (A. Serrano Solis, pers. comm.). Therefore, the J. Chemnick & T. Gregory 5 duplicate at FTG! (FTG76122) (Fig. 3A), which was also formally designated an isotype in the protologue (Chemnick & Gregory 1995), is herein designated the lectotype for Ceratozamia whitelockiana Chemnick & T.J.Greg., and the J. Chemnick & T. Gregory 5 duplicate at SBBG! (SBBG150093, SBBG150094, SBBG150095) (Fig. 3B), which was not mentioned in the protologue, is herein designated the isolectotype."
