Macrozamia riedlei (Fisch. ex Gaudich.) C.A.Gardner [WFO] [IPNI] [POWO] [MO]

First published in: Enum. Pl. Austral. Occ.: 3. (1930).

Etymology: Honoring Anselme Riedlé (1775–1801), former head gardener at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and friend of the great French explorer Nicolas Baudin, who he accompanied on a scientific expedition (1800–1804) to chart the coast of New Holland (Australia) and collected the type of this species. (Hill & Osborne 2001, Jones 2002) [source]

Nomenclature notes: As 'reidlei'. From Australian Plant Name Index: 'Gardner does not refer directly to a basionym but includes Macrozamia fraseri Miq. in synonymy. In the preface (p. ii) Gardner states that the synonyms in brackets refer to the name as used in Bentham's Flora Australiensis. Bentham, Fl. Austral. 6: 252 includes Cycas riedlei as a synonym of M. fraseri Miq. Thus Gardner's combination is by indirect reference to the basionym.'
