Abstract
This chapter involves systematic investigation and collection of microalgae associated with cycad coralloid roots, with the objective to reveal significant insights in both ecological and biotechnology potential of this symbiotic interaction. Cycads are ancient gymnosperm that forms a unique relationship with nitrogen-fixing microalgae in their specialized coralloid roots. The cycad’s ability to absorb nutrients and maintain overall health depends on the microalgae that reside in these roots. The cycads coralloid roots are collected from different environmental conditions and microalgal diversity present inside these coralloid roots which are symbiotic and isolated, and morphological characterization of the microalgal species was performed.
